The school Sosekido (素石堂) was formed by my sensei, Unkotsu Komine (小峰雲骨) many years ago. I was 13 years old when I first met him, and it was the beginning of my long-time calligraphy path.
After 2 years and a half, finally I start to understand the pottery. Rather, my mind and the hands have started connecting. This theory is very similar to calligraphy. You have your image of what you are going to write but it´s hard to reflect it on the paper, as if your hand isn´t connected to your brain. Finally, my ceramic works are getting closer to what I want to make.
My teacher and I have been looking for a white glaze so that I don´t have to colour my pieces in order to be able to write calligraphy in black glaze. Finally she recommended me white engobe. I think this is the best option so far.
“川 (kawa – river)”
“笑 にこにこ (warai niko niko – smile)”
“膳 (zen – a bowl)”
Inside of this bowl, I have tried some metallic glaze, which came out nicely.
