Sosekido

The school Sosekido (素石堂) was formed by my sensei, Unkotsu Komine (小峰雲骨) many years ago. I was 13 years old when I first met him, and it was the beginning of my long-time calligraphy path.

BONSAI Expo in Berlin

On the first weekend of May, the 4th and the 5th, there will be a BONSAI exhibition in Berlin.

I´ve been working with a ceramic artist, Andreas Münz. He is a German potter who makes BONSAI pots. He will exhibit his pots for this exhibition and I´ve had an opportunity to collaborate with him.

I´ve visited his workshop outside of Berlin, first to see the glaze if it suitable for the pot and for me to write. Then after many testing, finally Andreas had found the perfect glaze. Now it´s for me to write on the pots.

As the surface is curved, it was a little difficult to write calligraphy on it. Also to find the centre of the pot, because I could only write once. What a tension.

These are the photos of the pots before baking in the oven.

We also prepared some tiles.

I´m excited to see the result. The ink looks reddish in raw but in theory, it´ll change to black when it´s burnt. I can´t wait to see it´s done.

Andreas also makes Tokkuri (徳利/ Sake bottle) and of course, I´ve written SAKE (酒) on it. Do you feel like drinking Sake with these?

All these pots and tiles with calligraphy are available at BONZAI EXPO in Berlin.
