Sosekido

The school Sosekido (素石堂) was formed by my sensei, Unkotsu Komine (小峰雲骨) many years ago. I was 13 years old when I first met him, and it was the beginning of my long-time calligraphy path.

Kakizome in 2014

Thank you for coming to Kakizome 2014. It was also the first day of the class for Sosekido. We started with a small instruction of calligraphy and moved to write some basic lines such as Tome (止め/stop) or Hane (撥ね/flip) to get used to the brush.

Some people had done some classes before and some were total beginner but everyone was very concentrated.

This is my usual team, we call ourself “Kalliboys and Kalligirls”. Since it was an open class day, while I was explaining to the visitors, they had already started practicing their new year resolutions (新年の決意/Shin-nen no ketsui).

Sabrina, the girl in the front wrote 無為 (Mui) means doing nothing. Klaus san wrote 自覚 (Jikaku), awareness. And Renate san, on the floor wrote 初夢 (Hatauyume) since she had an interesting first dream on the New Year.

After practicing, we made a big New Year’s resolution paper. Each one wrote their own word. Martin san wrote 茶の湯 (Cha no yu/tea ceremony) as he is practicing it for a while.

Bettina san is an artist and she paints. She wrote 自由 (Jiyuu /free). She like to be a free spirit.

Meite san wrote 無事 (Buji/safe) since she likes the Kanji 無. I hope the year will go well like she wishes.

Stefan san wrote 島唄 (Shimauta) which is a famous song from Okinawa island in Japan. OK, it’s not a resolution but it’s his passion for the song. It´s one of my favourite song too.

Brigitte san was very energetic lady and mede me laugh a lot during the class. Her Kakizome was 勇気 (Yuuki/courage). I think her energy give people a lot of Yuuki.

After a hard work, it’s always nice to have a little sweet moment with Japanese green tea.

All work together. “躍 (Yaku)” in the middle, which means leap in Japanese. Since it’s a year of horse in 2014, I like all to have a big leap in their own way. Thank you for everyone who joined today and wish you all the wonderful year.
