Shop Sign Design – 魚旨道(Sushi-do)
In Talavera de la Reina, Spain, a new takeaway sushi shop was open last year. At the beginning of the last autumn, I received an email, which was asking me to write the shop sign in calligraphy. It was an honour for me to write something for the face of the shop and it stays there for a long (hopefully) time.
The shop is called 魚旨道 (Sushi-do). It’s more common to write sushi in 鮨 but the owner wanted it separate. This is also correct.
Their sushi looks very nice and I’m hoping to taste it when I travel to Spain some time. Talavera de la Reina is very close to Toledo. If you have a chance to travel that direction, please drop in. Tell them that you found out Sushi-do because of the calligrapher. I’m sure you make them happy.

Is the owner Japanese? The shop looks very “traditional”, at least from the outside.

Yes it does but they are Spanish people. Although the owner is also the CEO of Karate Federation in Castilla La Mancha and has been to Japan some times.
