The school Sosekido (素石堂) was formed by my sensei, Unkotsu Komine (小峰雲骨) many years ago. I was 13 years old when I first met him, and it was the beginning of my long-time calligraphy path.
It’s a St.Valentine’s Day today. For a long time, this day was known as chocolate day for me. In Japan, it’s a day for the girls to give boys a box of chocolate. Also it was a day for a girl to tell the boy that she likes him by giving him chocolate. This was common among school children. In adult life, it’s more like a social activity.
Many department stores, supermarkets and sweet shops start promoting St.Valentine´s Day when February begins and there are always boxes of chocolate and you see only women are in those sections. If you like to know more about St.Valentine’s Day in Japan, please check HERE.
Now I’ve learned that St.Valentine’s Day is the day when we simply show your love to your people. Your friends or family and it’s not necessarily that it involves chocolate.
For all of you now reading this page, Happy St.Valentine’s Day from Sosekido.I send you a big heart and hope you all have a lovely day.
